10 Things you need to know about Robert Gordon University.

1. RGU, Robert Gordon University, situated in the north-east of Scotland is 250 years old. Founded originally as a technical college in 1750 it gained full university status in 1992.

2. The university offers over 150 degree programmes. They are well known for their oil and gas courses and have a particular strength in medical technology. They also offer courses such as architecture, accounting, engineering, law and social work and courses for the creative arts.

3. Out of the 9,000 undergraduates 35% are studying at the Aberdeen Business School, 27% are enrolled in Design and Technology courses and 37% are taking degrees in Health and Social Care faculty. The university’s overall student satisfaction rates are consistently well above average for its courses and entry qualifications

4. RGU is known as the Professional University. It focuses on delivering education that prepares students for the professional world. 90% of the courses have an extended periods of assessed work experience or integrated placement

5. All of the RGU courses are designed and developed with the relevant professional bodies. The Faculties work closely with employers at all stages of the students’ journey, from course development and accreditation (such as the CIM accreditation alongside the MSc in Marketing) to providing scholarships and work based placements and experiences.

6. The university careers service runs a professional skills module which all students take before their work placement. The Careers service continues to support students after they have graduated.

7. International Fees: this depends on the subject, for Mechanical Engineering for example the fee is £14,300 per academic year. While an undergraduate in Fashion Design will cost £12,000 per academic year. For Scottish and EU residents the degree programmes are paid for by the Scottish Government and for English students the fees are tiered with Business, Management and Science courses costing £5,000 per year, Art and Design, Architecture and Built Environment, Computing, Engineering, Health and Science courses costing £6,750 annually and the university's Master's of Pharmacy priced at £8,500 a year.

8. Facilities at the university campus include purpose-built Clinical Skills Centre, high-tech television and radio studios and a Green Screen Suite. Sports facilities include a six-lane 25m swimming pool, nine-badminton-court sports hall, three state-of-the-art fitness areas including a strength and conditioning suite, and three exercise studios.

9. Student life -There are 11 accommodation options to choose from, all within a 5 – 20 min walk from the city centre. Students form 10% of the local population so there is a healthy student nightlife.
